Nucleus can support full version control of
the documents that are stored within it. Using web-dav technology, Nucleus allows
a staff member with the appropriate permissions to edit a file, for example a
word document, directly from Nucleus without having to download a local copy.
When the user makes a change, the changes are saved directly back to the
server. Each time a user edits a document, it is locked from editing by anyone
else until the user releases the lock.
If required, this additional module can track
all the different versions of the documents. The version history will be
available, with the ability for an administrator to rollback changes to any of
the previous versions.
For any document in Nucleus, the staff
member will be able to view all of the previous file versions, including who
edited them and when, and if necessary view the document as it was at that stage.
This audit trail of updates to important documents is automatically captured.

Authorised users and administrators can
also edit filenames to update the version history. For example a user may
decide that although Nucleus has labelled the latest changes to a document as
version 4, that it should actually be version 4.1, and this can be overridden
in the system.
