This month Internetrix is pleased to announce the Port Kembla Port Corporation as one of our newest clients.
The Port Kembla Port Corporation (PKPC) is a Statutory Corporation of the NSW Government responsible for administering, managing, and growing the port of Port Kembla—the closest specialist industrial port to Sydney.
Already responsible for the overall management and future direction of the port, PKPC has an array of internally focused communications requirements. With stakeholders ranging from government to customers and even local residents, PKPC must provide professional, timely and relevant communication, including shipping schedules, port access and interact with anyone from coastal services through to Cape size vessels.
One vital communication tool for PKPC is its website. Although the site already offers advanced features such as live shipping updates and integrated weather reports, it is tired and dated, which isn’t a surprise because it is almost 5 years old. The website architecture and navigation is severely limiting, supporting only two levels of page content.
“We had many favorable comments about the old site,” said Port Kembla Port Corporations’ General Manager Marketing & Business Development, Warwick Reader. “But the site is old and content is difficult to change. It needs to be modernised so more relevant information can to be added.”
Essentially PKPC needs to move to a richer, deeper, more informative content delivery regime. To do so, Internetrix will create a new PKPC website and implement Freestyle—Internetrix’ content management system.
As with other Freestyle implementations, non-technical staff at PKPC will be able to control and maintain online content. “At the moment I am the only person that updates the site, but soon we’ll have a more user friendly system that will enable other staff to manage the site,” Mr. Reader said.
What is most exciting is that Freestyle’s base functionality is being extended by a number of modules to deliver some innovative features. “We’re looking forward to a number of things about the new site,” Mr. Reader explained. “We want to get more people to use and visit the site. Better technology and systems will hopefully increase usability and web precense.”
A Dynamic News Presentation Module will display news on PKPC’s homepage, improving the ease of use for the wide variety of visitors the site caters for. Any page that PKPC creates can be marked as “news” and Freestyle will display the most recent “news” items in a special part of the homepage.
Further extending the news presentation module is the RSS News Feeds Module. This special feature will allow for PKPC site visitors to subscribe to the RSS news feeds and get an update whenever a newsworthy page changes or a new page is added. To help users understand RSS news feed technology, Internetrix will also create RSS help pages.
The new site will also house a page where users can track shipping movements, delimiting the movements by timeframe. By the inclusion of a multimedia module and some e-learning components, the Corporation will continue to deliver an outstanding level of communication and service for the wider community.
“We need to market PKPC and provide information to stakeholders,” exclaimed Mr. Reader. “The site will be able to do that in improved ways.”
Keep your eyes peeled for the launch of the new Port Kembla Port Corporation website in coming months.
