On a similar note, there are a number of companies, one of them
known as the Domain Name Protection Group which have sprung up recently.
These companies send invoices out to domain name holders at about
the time that domain names come up for renewal.
Internet Names Australia (the official .com.au people) are currently
taking legal action against these groups, and I would encourage
all holders of domain names to ensure that when it comes time to
renew, you check very carefully who the invoice is from before paying
it. Many of these companies have names similar to the official registrar
and it can all be a bit confusing.
Many of these companies are bordering on fraudulent, and late last
year there was a case of a client of ours who had their domain name
disabled by Internet Names Australia for non-payment of their bill
because the client mistakenly paid the wrong company.
